The second session of the “Young Perspective Series,” initiated within the scope of the “Decent Work Series” conducted by Ibn Haldun University International Law and Human Rights Application and Research Center (UHAM) to create a space for the work of young academics, was held online on Friday, June 19, 2026.
In the session titled “Lawyers Drifting into the Precariat,” the deepening processes of precariousness in the legal profession, structural challenges faced by intern and salaried lawyers, and the effects of technology on the future of the profession were thoroughly discussed.
The event was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Gülnihal Ahter Yakacak, faculty member at Ibn Haldun University Faculty of Law and Director of UHAM, while Lecturer İbrahim Solmaz, PhD Student in Private Law at Ibn Haldun University, participated as the speaker.
During the event, structural transformations in the legal profession were discussed in light of sociological and economic theories. Within this scope, the precariousness challenges faced by intern and salaried lawyers, the narrowing opportunities in independent legal practice, and the new risks brought by digitalization to the sector were evaluated. Finally, the multi-faceted competency models that future legal professionals must acquire to adapt to this global transformation were assessed within the framework of decent work standards.
The event was broadcast live on UHAM’s YouTube channel.
