From the Cultural Genealogy of Law to Algorithmic Justice: Artificial Intelligence, Culture, and the Transformation of Norms
In a panel organized by the Ibn Haldun University Center for International Law and Human Rights Implementation and Research (UHAM), the transformation of artificial intelligence, culture, and norms was discussed in the process extending from the cultural genealogy of law to algorithmic justice. Held with the participation of the editors of the book "Law and Culture: Intersection and Interaction Lines," the event explored the transformative impact of technology on law and culture.

The panel titled “From the Cultural Genealogy of Law to Algorithmic Justice: Artificial Intelligence, Culture, and the Transformation of the Norm,” organized by the Ibn Haldun University Center for International Law and Human Rights Implementation and Research (UHAM), was held online on November 18, 2025.

The event was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadire Özdemir from Ankara University, Department of Philosophy and Sociology of Law. The speakers included Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç, Former President of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye, and Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bozkurt Gümrükçüoğlu from Ibn Haldun University, Department of Labor and Social Security Law.

Within the framework of the book "Law and Culture: Intersection and Interaction Lines," the panel addressed the effects of digitalization and artificial intelligence technologies on legal norms and cultural structures. The relationship between the concept of algorithmic justice and the cultural foundations of law was examined in detail.

The speakers detailed the cultural roots of modern legal systems and how these roots are undergoing transformation in the digital age. Specifically, the integration of artificial intelligence algorithms into justice mechanisms, the philosophical and practical dimensions of the concept of "algorithmic justice," the changing nature of norms with digitalization, and the ethical issues created by new technologies from a human rights perspective were discussed.
