Employer's Right to Ask Questions and Its Limits in Job Interviews Discussed in the First Session of the Decent Work - Young Perspective Series
The first session of the "Decent Work - Young Perspective Series," launched by Ibn Haldun University UHAM to bring visibility to the work of young researchers and academics, was held. During the event, the obligations of the parties in recruitment processes, the scope of the employer's right to ask questions to candidates and the exceeding of these limits, the worker's right to lie, along with the privacy of private life and the prohibition of discrimination, were comprehensively discussed.

The Ibn Haldun University Center for International Law and Human Rights Implementation and Research (UHAM) has initiated a new era by creating a dedicated space for young academics and researchers within the scope of the "Decent Work Series." The first session of the series, named "Young Perspective," was held online on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

In this inaugural event titled "The Employer's Right to Ask Questions in Job Interviews and Its Limits in the Context of Decent Work," the legal boundaries in recruitment interviews—one of the fundamental issues of labor law—were discussed.

UHAM Director and Ibn Haldun University Faculty of Law Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Gülnihal Ahter Yakacak moderated the event, while Res. Asst. Özgür Sevim from Başkent University Faculty of Law participated as a speaker.

During the event, to which young academics contributed with their fresh perspectives, the delicate balance between the employer's right to collect information and the protection of the candidate's personality rights and personal data was evaluated within the context of the rule of honesty and the principle of proportionality. Which questions are considered legitimate during the recruitment process, the limits of the employer's right to ask questions, and the circumstances under which the prohibition of discrimination and personality rights are deemed violated were examined within the framework of decent work standards.

The event was broadcast live on UHAM’s YouTube channel.
