The seventeenth session of the “Decent Work Series,” organized by the Ibn Haldun University International Law and Human Rights Application and Research Center (UHAM), was held online on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
In the session titled, "Social Security in the Shadow of the Climate Crisis: New Risks, New Safeguards," the transformative impact of climate change on social security systems, the new risks emerging in this process, and the new safeguard mechanisms that must be developed against these risks were examined from the 'decent work' perspective.
The event was moderated by Prof. Dr. Yeliz Bozkurt Gümrükçüoğlu, a faculty member at Ibn Haldun University Faculty of Law, while Dr. İstemi Ceysu Dinç Ütükler from Yozgat Bozok University Faculty of Law participated as the speaker.
During the event, the social security dimensions of the 'just transition' within the "green" transformation process caused by the climate crisis were discussed. In this context, evaluations were made regarding job losses due to climate change, the protection of employees during the transition to green employment, and how existing social security systems (unemployment, health, pension) must adapt to these new risks.
The event was broadcast live on UHAM’s YouTube channel.
